Appleby Moving & Storage

Appleby Moving & Storage, since 1986

How much do movers cost in Burlington in 2026?

Most local moves we do in Burlington cost between $900 and $1,500. That’s Appleby’s average for houses and condos, and we price moves in Oakville and Hamilton the same way.

Where your move lands in that range comes down to the date, how much you’re moving, what it is and how far it’s going. We’ve been moving families out of our yard on North Service Road since 1986. Here’s how we build a price and how to keep the bill down.

What a local move costs in Burlington

Our average local move runs $900 to $1,500. It’s an average, so some moves come in under it and some go over. A smaller move in a quiet month sits near the low end. A full house moving at the end of June sits near the top.

Every quote is free and in writing. For a full house, Jeff walks through first so the price on paper matches the job on moving day. If you’re comparing us with another mover, ask whether they’ll do the same.

The four things that change the price

Your moving date

Summer costs more than the rest of the year. So does the end of the month, when a lot of closings and leases turn over. If your date has any give, ask us to price a week either side.

How much you’re moving

More furniture and more boxes take more time and more room on the truck. That’s why a one-bedroom condo downtown and a four-bedroom house in Millcroft get very different quotes.

What you’re moving

Antiques and china need more care and more wrapping, and that shows up in the price. We do move pianos. We don’t move large safes, paint, propane tanks or anything explosive or under pressure.

How far it’s going

A move across Burlington costs less than one from Burlington to Hamilton or Oakville. Leaving the area? Long-distance moves are quoted on their own. We walk through first, then give you a written price and a delivery window before loading day.

What costs extra

None of these show up as a surprise. If you want them, they go on the written quote.

  • Every move is insured. If you want more coverage, it’s $90 to $150 depending on the move.
  • We can pack the whole house, or just the kitchen, the china cabinet and the artwork while you do your own clothes and books. Most homes take a few hours to a day to pack.
  • If your closing dates don’t line up, we keep your things at our Burlington storage and deliver when the new place is ready. There’s no minimum term, and the price depends on how much you store and for how long.
  • You can buy boxes and tape from us before moving day and pack yourself.

How to keep your moving cost down

  • Stay away from the last few days of the month if you can, and from the middle of summer.
  • Get rid of what you don’t want before moving day. Less to move means less time.
  • Pack your own clothes and books, and leave the breakables to us.
  • Book early. Summer and month-end dates fill up first.
  • When you call, mention the big items, like a piano, a sectional or a gun cabinet, so the quote is right the first time.

How to compare moving quotes

Before you pick a Burlington mover, check for a real local address you can visit, proof of insurance, a written price and recent reviews from people who moved in your area.

Then ask each company how they build the price and whether they’ll see the house before quoting. A mover who walks through a full house is less likely to surprise you on moving day. Also ask who you’ll call on the day, and whether that person works for the company.
